Subject Pedagogy 3 (Theory Teacher)Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student acquires abilities to function as a music theory and ear training teacher on the music high school or lower vocational (II) level, learns to use different methods of teaching creatively as required in different situations, is able to integrate the subject into educational and musical unities, and gains facilities for continual acquisition, development, and application of pedagogic knowledge and for the production of teaching material.

Content

- Advanced study of the objectives of teaching level-specific subjects, as well as their influence on the choice of teaching methods and material
- Detailed pedagogic examination of the subjects and application of modern pedagogics, preparation of exercises in each subject, and becoming familiar with teaching aids and teaching material
- Producing your own teaching material
- Motivation and integration practice
- Preparation of lessons
- Introduction to examinations and their evaluation, preparation of examinations, observing teaching and learning, preparation of lesson plans, period plans and annual plans
- Prepared and unprepared teaching demonstrations
- Practical teacher training and feedback discussions

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in lessons as agreed
• has carried out the agreed tasks
• is able to work independently
• is familiar with conservatory-level music theory and ear training objectives, lesson content, teaching methods and educational planning
• is able to produce educational materials and prepare lessons
• is familiar with examinations and their assessment

Further information

Teaching Placement 3 (Theory Teacher) course must be completed simultaneously with the corresponding course in Subject Pedagogy (Theory Teacher).
