Ancient Folk Music of FinlandLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

A student will familiarize himself with the early history of Finnish folk music, instruments and dances of the time. He will learn the basics of 5-string kantele playing and gets oriented in oral music making. Knowledge and skills applies to work in music play school.

Content

The course includes technical basics of 5-string kantele and repertoire of traditional tunes. A student gets familiar with kalevala rune singing, shepherd music and ancient instruments. Working method is improvisation and own arrangements.
