Objective

Students are able to observe the surrounding society and becomes more sensitive to the signals of what the community and society need. Students are able to plan their work in relation to the context and to adapt to the circumstances. Students masters one of the methods of participatory theatre and is able of applying it appropriately as they are working with a community. Students can assess their own work, its effects and potential for improvement and hone their skills in creating interactive art.

Content

Students hone their skills in social, investigative and multi-disciplinary work through practical training in the field. The exact contents are dependent on the student’s choice of elective programme, A) Process Facilitation or B) Directing a Production. Students specialize in at least one method of participatory theatre and drama (e.g., forum theatre, process drama / story drama, playback theatre) and gain competence to work a leader-facilitator. The role of leader-facilitator is approached from various angles and it is developed in the contexts of working life. Field work is carried out in the form of a workshop that employs artistic tools, a community art event, or in the process of creating a service that employs the students’ skills in applied drama techniques.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students

1) participate in classes and complete the assigned tasks and practical training

2) are able to assume the role of a facilitator and practice the use of applied drama methods in real situations

3) demonstrate their ability to identify the basic concepts of group processes and social agency in theory and practice

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students

1) responsibly participate in classes, engage in completing the tasks and the practical training

2) can plan their own agency, assess their own contribution as well the contribution of others and to use the feedback they have received to develop their facilitation practice

3) can link the use of drama methods to the goals of facilitation and to create a constructive relationship in facilitation situations

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students

1) commit to facilitation events and deliver them with an insight. They give an active contribution to the way the event is realized

2) can design their assigned facilitation task and choose a method and mode that suit the occasion. They are able to assess and justify the execution of the whole facilitation event in reference to the social context

3) can engage in a constructive and creative interaction with the group they are working with, their peers and instructors. They are able to use various facilitation and applied drama methods in practice.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Completing the course with a pass grade requires that a student has met the objectives of the course as defined in the course implementation.
