Objective

Students can discern different levels of meaning in their own somatic experience and another person’s physical being. They can facilitate somatic processes and lead the processes towards their own goals. Students appreciate the role of the body in the construction of a relationship with the world and are able to use bodily empathy when leading workshops and other facilitation and performance contexts.

Content

Students acquire a deeper understanding of the body as a tool for learning and inquiry and body work as a teaching and learning technique. Students explore somatics in personal and cultural framework. They hone their bodily articulation and peception, as well as awareness skills. Students explore the somatic methods of social art, e.g., social choreography.

Students recognize somatic processes and are able to reflect on their somatic experience.

Students recognize differences between bodily and cognitive learning.

Students recoganize the role of somatic awareness in the construction of their relation to the world.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students recognize somatic processes and they are able to reflect on their somatic experience and improve their somatic expression towards their goals.

Students know themselves as somatic learners and identify different ways of somatic learning.

Students observe subjective somatic expererience and they are able to link them to cultural relations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students identify different levels of meaning in the somatic being of another person and they can direct the somatic expression of another person.

Students knows some of the somatic learning methods and they are able to apply them in practice.

Students can use the fundamental techniques of somatic work and they are able to highlight aspects of it.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Completing the course with a pass grade requires that a student has met the objectives of the course as defined in the course implementation.
