Conservaton of Mixed Media TextiesLaajuus (5 ECTS)

Objective

After completing this course:
- Materials used for manufacturing mixed material textiles, their damages and basic conservation methods.
- Other materials than textile incorporated in textile objects, such as paper, metals, beads, glass, etc., and their effect on textile.
- Identification of metal threads, manufacturing techniques and use in textiles.
- Basics of paper and metal conservation.
- Degradation process of above materials and basics of their conservation.

Content

- Student will know different manufacturing techniques of metal threads.
- Student will know properties of paper and its use in textile conservation.
- Student will understand the behaviour of mixed material textiles.
- Student will understand the interaction of various materials and their degradation process.
- Student will be able to apply her/his knowledge in practical conservation work.
- Student will be able to draft an appropriate conservation plan, carry out the conservation treatment and write a conservation report after conservation.
- Student will understand the meaning of independent research, and is able to carry out an independent research.
