Theoretical Background and Ethical Basis of Social PedagogyLaajuus (5 ECTS)

Objective

Students familiarise themselves with Social Pedagogy as a school of thought. They understand that socio-pedagogical competence means a functional combination of scientific, expressive, communicative and productive skills that can be transferred to practice. Students learn the key concepts of ethical theories, understand the connection between social pedagogy and ethics and learn how to use basic ethical concepts and models in their studies.

Content

Traditions of social pedagogy in Europe, socio-pedagogical competence and Madsen's model and postmodern society as living environment. Theoretical grounds for ethical choices and the ethical basis of social pedagogy.
