Anatomy and physiology of the visual system 1Laajuus (4 ECTS)
Course unit code: SO00AA36
General information
- Credits
- 4 ECTS
Objective
After completing the study unit, students can distinguish typical features of different refractive errors and explain anatomical and optical issues affecting visual acuity. They can explain the function of the eyes and vision regarding eye movements and their control mechanisms, accommodation and convergence as well as the neural mechanisms regulating the size of the pupil and its reactions.
Content
Development of the optic measurements of the eye and refractive power in different age groups, prevalence and classification of refractive errors, anisometropia, formation of visual acuity, capacity for accommodation, presbyopia, function and innervation of internal and external muscles of the eye, measuring pupil reaction
