Clinical Physiology and NeurophysiologyLaajuus (8 ECTS)
Course unit code: SBXXB22
General information
- Credits
- 8 ECTS
Objective
Students are familiar with the significance of clinical physiology and neurophysiology tests and nuclear medicine studies to treatment and monitoring of patients and become capable of performing key tests. Students are able to guide patients and clients undergoing examinations and become accustomed to dealing with clients in different circumstances and in different states of health and to meeting their needs in examinations. Students understand the subject areas required for radiation protection and command radiation protection in practical assignments. Students possess knowledge of radiation protection and physics, radiobiology, related occupational safety and use of radiation, as required in patient-specific nuclear medicine studies.
Content
Guidance of patients and ways to help them in clinical physiology, neurophysiology and nuclear medicine examinations. Key capacity, volume and ventilation tests of the respiratory system; circulatory system tests; tests of digestive and autonomic nervous systems. EEG tests, sleep tests, evoked potential studies, nerve conduction velocity studies and quantitative sensory testing (QST). The most common diseases relevant to the above-mentioned procedures and pharmaceuticals used to treat them.
Radiation Act, Decree 423/2000, Regulatory (ST) Guides Nos. 1.7, 1.8, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 7.1 and 7.5 of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK).
. Radiobiology lectures, radiation physics and nuclear medicine techniques and equipment, radiopharmaceuticals in patient diagnostics and treatment. Key scintigraphic scans (SPECT, PET), quality control and compliance with the principles of good nuclear medicine laboratory practices.
