Objective

Students understand transfusion medicine as part of the overall treatment of patients and command related pre-analytical duties, know how to perform the most common tests and understand their significance. Students familiarise themselves with the operations of a blood centre and are capable of controlling quality in their actions.

Content

Basic concepts of transfusion medicine; blood centre operations as a whole; ABO, Rh and other blood group systems; the most common blood-group antibodies; blood centre quality systems; blood products and transfusion reactions
Taking samples for blood grouping and cross-matching and performing the most common transfusion tests using tube and column agglutination techniques.
