Basic Equipment and Techniques in Biomedical Laboratory Science 2Laajuus (5 ECTS)
Course unit code: SBXXB02
General information
- Credits
- 5 ECTS
Objective
Students acquire basic knowledge in electricity, radiation physics and optics, on the basis of which they are capable of understanding the operating principles of the techniques and equipment used in treatment and laboratory work. Students understand the operational and methodological principles of the most common equipment used in clinical chemistry and haematology laboratory work and know how to use and service this equipment.
Content
Theory of electricity, radiation physics and optics (Physics accounts for 1.5 cr).
Clinical chemistry and haematological laboratory techniques and the operating principles, use and maintenance of related equipment, the main focus being on photometry, potentiometry, amperometry, electrophoresis, static and flow cytometry and coagulometry
Preparation and staining of haematological products
Automation and point of care (POC) analyses.
Qualifications
