Objective

Students perceive musculoskeletal diseases as being a global public health problem and the opportunities of podiatry as part of disease management and develop it in co-operation with occupational health staff. Students acquaint themselves with major musculoskeletal diseases in terms of podiatry and with methods of treating these, in order to understand the opportunities provided by podiatry for their treatment. Students acquaint themselves with the special characteristics of podiatry provided for people with rheumatoid arthritis, so as to be able to participate in treating their lower extremity problems. Students are familiar with domestic and foreign co-operation networks, in order to be able to provide expert podiatry.

Problems of lower extremity functions associated with musculoskeletal diseases (back problems, osteoarthritis of the lower extremities, osteoporosis, repetitive strain injuries) and their treatment
Treatment of foot problems in occupational health care
Examination and therapeutic principles of rheumatic feet
Lower extremity problems among people with rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis and special characteristics of podiatry
Special footwear and its acquisition
Activities of the Finnish Rheumatism Association and local associations
