Objective
After completing the course, students are able to use the central concepts of the promotion of health and welfare and apply the principles of preventative nursing. They understand care, service and rehabilitation chains as part of holistic care promoting the patient’s health and functional capacity. Students identify the challenges to health and understand the significance of national diseases to the wellbeing of the population and identify their symptoms. Students know how to implement client- and resource-oriented patient education when supporting client/patient in his/her change of lifestyle and also when considering the education of significant others/family and client's/patient’s living environment. As part of nursing, students can plan, implement and evaluate client's/patient’s education on lifestyle and care in cooperation with multiprofessional networks of experts. In addition, students are aware of the central laws on the health of the population and have basic knowledge of vaccinations and know how to apply them to work with clients/patients.

Central concepts and approaches of promotion of health and welfare
Client-oriented and empowering approach: empowering methods of discussion and the phase change model supporting lifestyle education at individual and group level
Health challenges of the population and demographic differences
Society and health promotion; central laws related to it, strategies, national programmes
Vaccinating as a factor promoting health of the population.

Students are familiar with the central concepts and approaches of health and welfare.
Students can use client-oriented and empowering work methods.
Students identify health challenges of the population and demographic differences.
Students can define their expert competence as promoters of health and welfare and demonstrate it partly in the activities of multiprofessional networks of experts.
Students are familiar with the central laws related to health promotion and have basic knowledge of vaccinating.

Students explain the central concepts and approaches of health and welfare and can apply them to nursing.
Students can use client-oriented and empowering work methods appropriately in nursing.
Students can utilise their expertise as promoters of health and welfare and demonstrate it in the activities of multiprofessional networks of experts.
Students can implement and evaluate practical solutions cooperating with other actors in the lifestyle guidance of clients/patients, taking into consideration significant others/family and the living environment.
Students can explain the central laws related to health promotion and the significance of vaccinating.
