Basics of Construction WorksLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Upon completion of the course, the student will be acquainted with the tasks of setting up a construction site, its equipment and logistics on site and inspections to be made. The student is able to compare and choose scaffoldings and cranes to be used on the site.

Content

Organising a job site, including traffic, hoarding, power, water and other site planning services. Other tasks such as the initiation of a construction site, excavation works, eradication of polluted lands, permission of the authorities, inspections and safety in job site works. The job site always upholds good building practices.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the basics of job site works, its equipment, logistics and official inspections. The student knows the concepts of job site safety, and good building practices.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the requirements above, the student is able to anticipate job site hot spots, avoid delays, organize materials and manpower, and utilize scaffolding and cranes safely.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the requirements above, the student has a deep understanding about the topics covered in the course and is able to apply them creatively and sensibly in different applications.
