Objective

Can perform percentage, interest, loan and index calculations. Knows the principles of life cycle assessment (LCA). Is able to calculate life cycle costs (LCC) for buildings, building services systems and equipment.

Content

Basics of financial calculations: percentages, indexes. Interest calculations. Discounting. Basics of investment calculations. Sensitivity analysis of investment calculations.
Target setting for LCC and LCA. Factors affecting the life cycle costs and their evaluation. Calculation tools for LCC.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Can perform simple percentage, index and loan calculations. Can explain the principles of life cycle assessment. Can perform simple life cycle cost calculations with given input values.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to (1), can perform simple discounting and investment calculations. Can explain the factors affecting the life cycle costs of building service systems. Knows where to get input data for LCC calculations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to (3), can evaluate the sensitivity of investment and LCC calculations. Can evaluate the reliability of data sources.
