Objective

The student is able to solve problems related to kinematics, when an object is either in motion on a plane or in rotation around a fixed axis. The student is able to define the external forces affecting a system and is able to apply the second and third Newtonian laws and/or the basic function of rotation. The student is able to calculate the work and power done by the force and is able to apply the energy principle of mechanics and the conservation law of mechanical energy both to systems in straightforward motion and in rotation around a fixed axis.

Content

1. Kinematics of rotational motion
2. Dynamics of propagation and rotational motion.
3. Work, power and energy.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student is able to define the external forces affecting a system and is able to apply the second and third Newtonian laws to straightforward motion.
2. The student is able to calculate the magnitudes of frictional forces.
3. The student is able to solve problems in kinematics, when an object is either in motion on a plane or in rotation around a fixed axis.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. As in level 1.
2. The student is able to define the external forces affecting a system and is able to apply the second and third Newtonian laws to a system in rotation or in an inclined plane.
3. The student is able to calculate the work and power done by a force.
4. The student is able to apply the fundamental equation of rotation to a system rotating around a fixed axis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. As in level 3.
2. The student is able to calculate the power and work done by a momentum.
3. The student is able to apply the energy principle of mechanics and the conservation law of mechanical energy both to systems in straightforward motion and in rotation around a fixed axis.
