General information

Credits
6 ECTS

Objective

The student is able to use the design software required in his/her studies in the degree programme of Electrical Engineering / Electronics.

The contents and the assessment criteria of the course may be slightly different depending on the teacher of the course.

Content

1. Printed Circuit Board design using the PADS software
2. Electric design using the CADS software
3. Design using the AutoCAD software

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student knows the purpose for which the circuit board design software is used, how to use software features for simple applications, can add library components included in the program, knows how to make connections between the components and knows how to do layout work technically without good layout design practice. The student is able to use independently the milling machine for making circuit boards.
2. The student knows the basic routines of CADS and is able to draw simple electric drawings.
3. The student knows the basic routines of AutoCAD and is able to draw simple mechanical drawings.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student can create new components for the component library, he/she is able to take into account the design rules for layout design, is able to satisfactorily explain in a written report the operation of the circuit.
2. The student is on a level to use the software in the projects of following courses in electrical engineering.
3. The student is able to learn different AutoCAD based applications.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student will be able to study by himself/herself the new features of the program and make use of them in the design, layout design is made with care and with a good layout design practice, and in addition the student is able to explain excellently in a written report the operation of the circuit and the design variables needed in calculations.
2. The student may individually draw a complex electric design with the software.
3. The student is able to design and draw a complex mechanical system using the software.
