Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the course the student will know mathematical methods related to image formation. The student will know the basic concepts in compressing data, the importance of the DCT, and some compression standards.

After completing the course the student will be able to make an image to an output device by making good use of the geometric properties of the model, the reflection and material properties of the surface, and locations and properties of the light source. The student will be able to compress and decompress an image e.g. by a JPEG-model in a computer. The student will be able to make good use of MATLAB in problem solving.

1. Image formation: co-ordinate transformation, projection, combining
the transformations; material and reflection models; image formation methods
2. Compressing data: the basic concepts of compression; discrete cosine transform (DCT)

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1)

The student knows the concept of an algorithm and concepts to define the efficiency of algorithms. The student is able to interpret algorithms written in a pseudo-code. The student knows some basic data structures. The student understands principles of different search algorithms.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3)

In addition to having satisfactory knowledge in the topics of the course the student is able to make an executable algorithm by interpreting a pseudo-code. The student understands what a recursive algorithm is and how it works, and how to make an executable recursive algorithm.

Arviointikriteerit, kiitettävä (5)

In addition to having good knowledge in the topics of the course the student is able to apply fluently different standard methods to analyse and to build executable algorithms. The student knows the mathematical principles behind the COOGLE-search and can simulate ranking of the COOGLE-search by his or her own algorithm.
