Osaamistavoitteet
Students understand fundamentals of electronics. Students can design, analyse, and test a simple electronic device.
Sisältö
Introduction:
• Electronic applications, different levels of the analysis of electronic systems and the design principles
• Signals, signal sources and signal processing
• Circuit and component models and their analysis, amplifiers and amplifier models as an example
• Signal feedback
Components and basic circuits based on them:
• Passive components (resistors, capacitors and coils) and their circuit applications
• Operational amplifiers: the ideal model and basic amplifier configurations
• Basic linear applications of operational amplifiers: the inverting and the non-inverting amplifier sharing a single
operational amplifier, the inverting adder, integration and differentiation, active filters
• System control
• Measuring component and circuit parameters in the lab
Application example:
• To define the parameters of an amplifier-filter block for a given signal processing task when the parameters of the preceding and the succeeding blocks are defined
• To design the block using basic circuit application
Semiconductors:
• Semiconductor diode, photodiode, light emitting diode, Zener-diode, and their applications
Transistors:
• Bipolar transistors (BJT) and field effect transistors (FET): models explaining their operation, the main differences between BJT and FET and their circuit applications (switches and amplifiers)
Operational amplifiers:
• The most important parameters of an opamp and how to take the nonidealities of the opamp in to account in circuit design
• Linear applications of opamps: band pass filter, instrumentation amplifiers, increasing the current drive capability of an opamp with the aid of an external transistor
• Non-linear applications of an opamp-comparators, bistable and astable multivibrators

Circuits, Signals

The student understands the operating principles of semiconductor components and operational amplifiers and is able to analyze simple transistor circuits and operationa amplifier circuits. The student understands the significance of A/D conversion.

The student is able to design simple transistor and operational amplifier circuits according to given specifications. The student understands the operation of A/D conversion and is able to design a and realize simple A/D converter circuits.
Arviointikriteerit, kiitettävä (5)
The student profoundly understands the operation of different transistor and operational amplifier circuits. The student is able to analyze and design signal conditioning circuits for given specifications using A/D converters.
