Objective

After completion of this course the student is able to understand the basics of computers system and is able to perform installations, extensions and upgrades to a system with knowledge and needs from information networks. The student understands the meaning and purpose of basic computer security.

The student can make common PC hardware and software installations and is able to maintain an own home networked environment.

Content

PC-computers parts and configuration. Hardware and software installation and future extensions. Installation, configuration and maintenance of operating system. Software and hardware requirements of networks to computer system. General idea of how modern home and SMB networks are build and used.

Operating system and computer usage aiding best practices.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the structure of the computer and knows the differences between different components.
The student knows how to install a PC and Windows7 operating system, can set basic settings to OS, install security software and other commonly used programs.
The student understands how information is stored and used in a computer, can conceive how network and information sharing is set up.
