Osaamistavoitteet

After completion of the course a student understands statistical behaviour of measurement data. The student can make a statistical analysis of data.

Sisältö

The nature of statistical variation, Graphical tools for describing statistical properties of measurement data, Computational (mathematical) tools for describing statistical properties of measurement data, Basic concepts of probability, random variables and their distributions, Measurement uncertainty, Confidence, prediction and tolerance intervals, Statistical process control (SPC), Statistical tests, Regression analysis and
calibration, Analysis of variance, Statistical design (DOE) and analysis of
experiments, Use of statistical software.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1)

The student understands the concept of probability and some basic concepts in statistics. Knows how to visualize measurement data. Is able to estimate probabilities in a practical trial. Understands the statistical nature of practical measurements. Have knowledge of some common distributions and can make calculations using distributions. Can estimate reliability of measurements. Is able to apply methods of Regression Analysis in praxis.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3)

In addition to having satisfactory knowledge in the topics of the course the student understands the role of a confidence interval to estimate reliability of a measurement. Knows some ways to do tests and analyse their results. Is able to analyse how error propagates in calculations.

Arviointikriteerit, kiitettävä (5)

In addition to having good knowledge in the topics of the course the student is able to apply fluently different standard methods of statistics to solve engineering problems in data measurements. The student is able to use the Central Limit Theorem in applications. Knows how to approximate distributions by other distributions.
