General information

Credits
5 ECTS

Objective

The student learns how to combine different electronic circuits in order to develop larger systems.

Content

Digital circuits, joining the analog and the digital circuits:
• Logic families (CMOS, TTL) and using them
• AD- and DA-converters: conversion principles and using them
• Semiconductor switches and their applications: multiplexers, S/H-circuits, digital control of the analog circuits
• Removing interference, shielding and isolation (optoisolators)
Power supplies, voltage regulation:
• Principles of linear and switching regulators and basis for choosing a regulator
Design problem:
• To design and construct an electronic system, for example to amplify and filter a given noisy signal with a given DC- and
AC- accuracy
Amplifiers:
• Amplifier frequency response, multistage amplifiers
• Feedback and frequency compensation
• The internal structure of an opamp, non-idealities and their effect on the circuit behaviour and design
• Design of a transistor amplifier (BJT, FET)
Filters and oscillators:
• Active filters
• Sine wave and square wave oscillators, triangle wave oscillators, voltage-controlled oscillators, voltage to frequency
• Conversion, timer circuits
Power supplies and regulators:
• Linear regulator circuits and how to design with them, switching supplies and DC-DC converters
• Voltage and current references
Design project:
• Developing an electronic system
