Objective

The student knows the basic properties of discrete time systems and how to analyze a linear, time-shift invariant system. The student can solve fundamental digital signal processing problems. The student understands the fundamentals of digital filtering.

Content

Basics of Digital Signal Processing:
- discrete signals and their properties,
- properties of sampled linear systems,
- flow diagram,
- difference equation,
- convolution
- transfer function,
- impulse response,
- frequency response,
- z-transform,
- poles and zeroes

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows the basic properties of linear time-invariant systems and the basic building blocks of the signal processing system. He/she can use z-transform to analyse the stability of the given system.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can analyze given systems in both time and frequency domains. The student is able to sketch a frequency response from the pole-zero diagram. In case of problems encountered, the student can learn new concepts and methods from the signal processing literature.
