Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the course the student has knowledge of transmission systems, transmission media, the digital transmission standards PCM, PDH, SDH and switching system principles. The student has the skills to analyze the performance of the nodes and the transmission paths in a communication system. The student is able to select the transmission system for a given application.

Telecommunication network:
-knows the architecture of the network and knows the circuit switched connection principle.
Transmission:
-understandsthe structure and advantages and disadvantages of different transmission media and is able to do basic calculations for media.
Switching systems:
-knows the switching process definition and knows different switching techniques in the public networks.
Transmission systems:
-knows the microwave links as an analogue and a digital transmission system.

Telecommunication network:
-knows operational functions of the network.
Transmission:
-understands the transmission system constructions on different transmission media and the multiplexing methods FDM, TDM, WDM.
Switching systems:
-knows the principles of manual and automatic switching systems.
Transmission systems:
-knows the principles of the main units of the GEO satellite systems and is able to do basic calculations in satellite communications.

-understands the structures of different network topologies.
Transmission:
-knows the standards for digital transmission and has knowledge of the ATM system.
Switching systems:
-understands the SPC exchange construction and principle and knows the development phases of switching technology.
Transmission systems:
-understands the principles of a satellite based analogue and digital trunk systems
-understands the optical fiber system structure and is able to select the required components for a specified transmission system.
