Objective

The student comprehends how XML is used in Web applications and software engineering that include programming and databases.
The student masters the fundamentals of several XML based technologies such as XQuery and XPath 2.

The student is able to develop advanced XML based applications.

Content

The principles of client programming, Ajax and DOM
Current XML application areas and uses.
In-depth knowledge of one XML based technology and its application

XML application areas and environments,
use of XML on server side and databases

Introduction to XML

The student has knowledge of several XML based languages, and an ability to design schemas and to process XML documents using XQuery.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to create functioning applications using XML tools such as XQuery.
The student knows the extent of uses of XML based languages.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is a competent user of a variety of XML based standards. She/he is able to apply XML based tools creatively to solve problems in information systems development.
The student has good in-depth knowledge of one XML based technology and its application.
