Waste Water Treatment Plant DesignLaajuus (4 ECTS)

Course unit code: TG00AA58

General information

Credits
4 ECTS

Objective

The students knows design criteria and the design process for waste water treatment plants. This includes unit operations in waste water treatment, design of physical, chemical, and biological processes for treatment of waste water; sludge treatment and disposal.

Content

Waste water treatment methods and implementation considerations. Waste water properties, legislation and regulations, objectives of waste water treatment, physical/chemical/biological treatment unit processes. Waste water treatment plant design (design flowrates, design mass loadings, process selection, and elements of conceptual process design). Physical unit operations. Design of physical treatment units, biological treatment units (activated sludge processes, aerated lagoons, stabilization ponds, biological nutrient removal processes). Design of aeration systems and secondary clarifiers and sludge disposal/treatment facilities. Design of chemical treatment units - chlorine disinfection, dechlorination, and ultraviolet light disinfection.
