Data Communication MethodsLaajuus (5 ECTS)
Course unit code: TX00CD39
General information
- Credits
- 5 ECTS
Objective
After completing the course the student understands how data transmission quality and data rate depend on channel characteristics. He/she knows the most important physical layer transmission methods and understands why different methods are used in different conditions. He/she is able to estimate data rate achieved in certain conditions and which method is the most suitable for a certain application. With the help of this course the student is able to understand physical layer specifications of modern systems.
Content
Fundamental limits for information transmission
Characteristics of different transmission media
Propagation of radio waves
Time and frequency domain representations of signals
Digital continuous wave modulation methods and their performance
Optimum selection of transmission methods considering channel characteristics
