Objective

After completing this course:
- Students are familiar with their physical and social study environment. - Students are familiar with key information systems of Metropolia.
- Students are familiar with their career opportunities.
- Students will practice studying methods, learning skills and communication skills both in written and spoken.
- Non-native Finnish students are familiar with the basics of Finnish language.
- Students develop their problem solving skills required in learning of mathematics and natural sciences.
- Students are able to use some mathematical software.
- Students will learn the use of office tools and software and they will be able to produce web based documentation and presentations.

- Quantities and units
- Graphical chart
- Finnish communication skills for technology (for native speakers)
- Finnish for Forgeiners
- Oral and written reporting and documentation
- Tools and software for documentation and learning
- Introduction to programming tools
- Learning and study skills
- Knowledge related to specific fields of work
- Key guidelines and rules of higher education studies
- Metropolia as a study environment

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student is able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development. The student has completed the required learning exercises in a minimum requirement level. His/her competences have developed in a way that he/she may complete the remaining studies in information technology and finally work in a suitable job position related to this field.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement in some areas. The student has completed the required learning exercises in good or satisfactory level. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and is able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge in study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of information technology and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student has completed the required learning exercises in good or excellent level. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge in study and work situations. The student is able to analyze the expertise in information technology and the evolvement of his/her own expertise.

The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student is able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development. The student has completed the required learning exercises in a minimum requirement level. His/her competences have developed in a way that he/she may complete the remaining studies in information technology and finally work in a suitable job position related to this field.
