Osaamistavoitteet
This module has been designed to give the student a broad understanding of the legal and economic aspects of trade co-operation frameworks within Europe. At an introductory level the module will examine the recent history of Europe and the consequent creation of the European Union (EU), its counterpart the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) and their subsequent co-operation in the European Economic Area Agreement (EEA) which has led to the creation of a large pan-European market.
The aim of this module is to provide a basic understanding of trade co-operation in Europe and its structure, fundamental values and aims. This course is helpful towards understanding the Module Introduction to Business Law in the second semester.

By the end of the module the student will be able to:
* outline the history & background of the EU, the EFTA and the EEA
* understand the legal framework governing the creation of trade organisations
* identify the present trade structure in Europe
* describe the important objectives of European trade co-operation
* describe current issues which may impact upon the development of European trade
