Objective

Intercultural/Cross-cultural competence is becoming increasingly important in today’s inter-dependent business environment. Whether negotiating a deal with a foreign counterpart or working within a multicultural team such competence is necessary for effective results.

The Module will highlight the relevance of culture and perception in the international business environment. The Module emphasizes application of theory to simulated situations.

Content

Upon completion of the Module, the student will:
* understand the relevance of culture in business
* recognise the effect of different cultural norms and ethics on business operations
* recognise the potential competitiveness of an effectively managed multicultural environment
* develop competence in communicating across cultures
* apply basic tools for effective organisation and management
* develop skills in multicultural negotiation and management strategy

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient performance:  showing just enough understanding of the subject to merit a pass grade but requiring greater effort to achieve a more satisfactory result

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good performance: showing strong understanding of basic concepts and good grasp of techniques, but with certain minor problems still requiring further attention

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent performance: not only fulfils all standard requirements but demonstrates originality and imagination
