Objective
Most courses at university aim to develop students’ professional skills and knowledge. There are many other parts of an individual, however, that are just as essential for achieving one's professional life goals:
• The range and depth of my relationship skills
• My attitudes when I relate with others
• My core values and how they impact on my professional life
The Relationship course aims primarily to help students think about relationships within the workplace – and how they might use their university years to improve their skills so they are better prepared when they graduate.
Content
• Key elements of Transactional analysis – How we can categorize different types of relationship skills – and what the key skills I need in the workplace are
• Team building using Keirsey
• Five key attitudes that allow me to improve the relationship skills I already have – and why they are essential for bosses and team dynamics
• The role of core values in professional lives and company development
• Workshop days – meeting skills, listening and conflict resolution within a workplace context
• Body language – and how it influences relationships
• Learning to cross the gender divide in the workplace
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Weak performance: showing just enough investment to merit a pass grade
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Acceptable performance: Investment has been made – but could have done more
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Excellent performance: not only fulfils all standard requirements but demonstrates originality, sincerity and imagination
