Objective

The students master the processes of data acquisition and management. They understand and appreciate the principles of academic writing and reporting, especially those concerning thesis structure and indirect quotation. The students understand the significance of clear reference techniques and source criticism when writing expository texts and various documents. They produce stylistically correct texts, using phrases typical for research reports. The students are also able to orally present their research topic.

Content

The processes of data acquisition and management; principles of academic writing and reporting; principles of indirect quotation; reference techniques; good style. The students also prepare an oral presentation and rehearse public speaking.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students master the general principles of academic writing and produce complete reports and documents, but the reports include language errors and stylistic and structural flaws. The students also have difficulty in indirect quotation. The students have functional presentation skills as a whole, but there are language errors, stylistic, and structural flaws in the presentations as well as insecurity in public speaking.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students master the general principles of academic writing and produce appropriate reports and documents. The language used is fluent and fairly precise, and there are no significant stylistic or structural flaws. Some defects may occur, for example, in indirect quotation. The students produce well-structured oral presentations, emphasizing the relevant research results/findings and the possible recommendations implied by the research.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students completely master the appropriate structure and components of a research report. They communicate fluently and almost flawlessly both orally and in writing. They can also make a synthesis of different theories by indirect quotation, in their own words. The students give excellent presentations, speaking in a natural and inspiring manner.
