Chinese 1Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The students are able to use about 60 basic Chinese characters; apply basic grammar; introduce themselves, greet, and get to know another person; state their name and nationality in Chinese; talk about their language skills and occupation; contact a stranger and, for example, ask him/her to tea; and identify typical characteristics of Chinese culture.

Content

The Pinyin system (the transliteration of Chinese characters into Latin alphabet); five tones; basic vocabulary; oral exercises; guided writing exercises.

Qualifications

No previous Chinese studies are required.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has achieved the course objectives on a satisfactory level. The student’s target language communication skills and cultural knowledge are limited compared to the content of the course.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives on a good level, but some aspects of the student’s skills and knowledge still require further attention. The student’s target language communication skills and cultural knowledge are good with regard to the content of the course. The student is able to apply the acquired skills in communication situations encountered in studies, work, or free time.

The student has achieved the course objectives excellently. The student’s target language communication skills and cultural knowledge are strong with regard to the content of the course.
