Multiculturalism and EqualityLaajuus (6 ECTS)

Objective

The student is aware of how encounters with other people are affected by his/her own and other people's attitudes. The student has an open mind to diversity and is able to analyse the challenges involved in cultural encounter, integration process, and minority status. The student is able to support the development of the clients' identity. The student acquires skills for multicultural work and equal practices.

Content

The basic concepts related to multiculturalism, the development of cultural identity and cross-cultural communication, encountering dissimilarity, ethnicity and racism, minority status, equality, the challenges set by the multiethnic society to social pedagogical work.
