Objective
The student
• is able to describe the key metabolic reactions and explain the biochemical mechanisms behind diseases
• describes the structure of biomolecules and explain the key steps of the amino acid, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and their significance in the cellular energy metabolism
• understands the functioning of enzymes and to describe the factors influencing it
• recognises the structure of haemoglobin and explain how it is regulated
• understands the importance of iron for the human body and explains the general characteristics of the iron metabolism
• explains hormone functioning and the basic mechanisms of intracellular signalling pathways.
