Advanced Practice Nurse in Palliative CareLaajuus (5 ECTS)

Objective

The student
- applies advanced level knowledge of palliative nursing to the planning, implementation and assessment of the care.
- works independently and takes responsibility as an advanced nursing practitioner in her/his scope of practice in direct patient care.
- identifies patient’s comprehensive care plan and masters service-counselling principles to respond to the needs of patients and their next of kin.
- consults and /or acts as a consulting expert to other health care professionals and care providers in his/her advanced scope of practice.
- works as palliative care coordinator and educator in his/her advanced scope of practice to professionals working in the region.

Content

- Patient groups and their special care needs in palliative and end of life care
- Symptom relief treatment, monitoring and assessment of care, evaluation of effectiveness of care and care plan update (treatment of most common symptoms such as pain, invasive special techniques, emergency situations)
- Systematic implementation of palliative care and nursing (drug therapies and non-pharmacological therapies)
- Systematic implementation of end of life care
- Pharmacology and applied pharmacology in palliative care
- The role of consultant and coordinating nurse in palliative and end of life care

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student demonstrates competence in the basic content of the course, but there are deficiencies in his/her ability to find and interpret information and to apply the learned content to the context of working life.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student demonstrates good competence in the content of the course. He/she is able to actively search for information and to identify its connection to working life. The student is able to analyse and apply the learned content to the context of working life.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student demonstrates versatile and extensive competence in the content of the
course. He/she has an excellent ability to search for relevant information. The student’s solutions demonstrate independence, responsibility, and skills in guiding others. His/her ability to apply the learned content to the context of working life exhibits creativity and versatility.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student demonstrates competence in the basic content of the course, but there are deficiencies in his/her ability to find and interpret information and to apply the learned content to the context of working life.

Kliininen osaaminen palliatiivisessa hoitotyössä muodostuu opintojaksoista S000DS40 Potilaslähtöinen hoitotyön prosessi palliatiivisessa hoidossa (5 op) ja S000DS41 Laajavastuinen asiantuntijasairaanhoitaja palliatiivisessa hoidossa (5 op). Opintojakso on tarkoitettu sairaanhoitajataustaisille opiskelijoille. Opintojakson toteuttavat Savonia AMK ja Turun AMK.
(Lähiopetuksena toteuttava potilaan kliinisen tutkimuksen osuudesta vastaa Metropolia AMK).
