Objective

Students are familiar with reporting and contract practices in record production business. Students learn the basic principles of copyrights, music publishing, distribution, songwriting copyrights and reporting of music productions to be able to protect their own rights.

Content

Copyrights - Gramex and Teosto reports – publishing contracts – distribution contracts – manager contracts – recording contracts – ISRC code.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in class
• is familiar with reporting and contractual practices in music production
• is familiar with Gramex and Teosto reports
• is familiar with contract practices in music publishing and the music distribution business
• is familiar with contract practices concerning shares of composition, lyric writing and music arranging
• is familiar with music production reporting
• can use and apply different kinds of model contract templates concerning music publishing, distribution and different kinds of rights and licenses to protect his/her own rights
• has successfully completed the exam

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition, the student:
• can manage Gramex and Teosto reports
• is able to make a basic music contract

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition, the student:
• can create contracts concerning shares in composition, lyric writing and music arranging
• can create reports and contracts for his/her own music productions

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student:
• has participated in class

• is familiar with contract practices in music publishing and the music distribution business
• is familiar with contract practices concerning shares of composition, lyric writing and music arranging
• is familiar with music production reporting

• has successfully completed the exam
