Objective

After completing the study unit, students
• are familiar with the special features of emergency nursing
• can assess the urgency of care of emergency patients in different age groups
• can observe and treat emergency patients of all ages

• Special features of emergency nursing
o the care process of an emergency patient
o staff composition of emergency departments
o facilities and areas of emergency departments

• Assessing need for care
• Initial assessment of the urgency of care
• Admission of patients
• Patient’s observation and care during the stay in emergency department
• The most common procedures carried out in emergency departments

Qualifications

Requisites for entering the study unit:
Basics of Clinical Nursing, Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Decision-Making in Nursing and Reporting, Surgery, Internal Diseases, Medical Nursing, Basics of Pre-Hospital Emergency Care, Basics in Medication, Medication, Medication and Pain Management.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students know the basic operating principles of emergency departments.
Students know the care process of an emergency patient.
Students know the special features of observation and care of emergency patients of different ages.
Students know the most common medication used in emergency care, their indications for use, mechanism of action, dosage as well as adverse and side-effects.
Students know the most common procedures of emergency care.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students display competence in the basic operating principles as well as the special features of emergency departments.
Students understand the care process of an emergency patient.
Students master the special features of observation and care of emergency patients of different ages.
Students master the most common medication used in emergency care, their indications for use, mechanism of action, dosage as well as adverse and side-effects.
Students master the most common procedures of emergency care.

Students master the special features of observation and care of emergency patients of different ages and know how to apply previously learned knowledge to treating patients.

Students master the most common procedures of emergency care and develop nursing.
