Objective
The student knows the principles of the most common manufacturing processes as well as the machinery and tools used
The student knows which cutting parameters to choose, is familiar with the theory of chip removal and is able to use machine tools
Content
1. Operating machining tools
2. Choosing cutting parametres and theory of metal cutting.
3. Principles of the most commonly used manufacturing methods, machines and tools
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. The student is able to use metal machine tools
2. The student is able to choose the right set of tools and cutting parametres for chipping machining and can identify machines that are used in chipping.
3. The student is able to compare suitability of manufacturing methods in the manufacturing process
Assessment criteria, good (3)
1. The student is able to use chipping machine tools and make an object with desired tolerance and surface roughness
2. The student is able to choose the right set of tools and cutting parametres for chipping machining and calculate efficiency requirement and chipping force and surface roughness and identify machines that are used in chipping
3. The student is able to compare the suitability of manufacturing methods in the product manufacturing processes.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
1. The student is able to use chipping machine tools and make an object with desired tolerance and surface roughness
2. The student is able to choose the right set of tools and cutting parametres for chipping machining and calculate efficiency requirements and chipping force and surface roughness. S/he knows various cutting materials and cutter geometry and usage, understands blade wear mechanism and form and the effect on lifetime, understands effect of chip maintenance on production. S/he can identify machines and fixtures used in chipping.
3. The student is able to compare suitability of various manufacturing methods in the product manufacturing process, knows the principles of manufacturing methods and the machines and tools used.
