Objective

The student has a basic knowledge of the most common materials used in the different fields of conservation and he/she knows how and where to purchase these special materials, tools and equipment.
The student has the basic knowledge and understanding of conservation materials, their applications and techniques common to all fields of conservation.
The student is able to identify these materials and knows their specific nature and the basic principles and specific techniques of their use.

Content

Materials, tools and equipment for conservation.
The purchase of materials and tools and the distributors
Adhesives and Consolidants in conservation; properties of the materials and basic techniques of use.
Cleaning; materials and basic techniques and their application in the different fields of conservation.
Introduction to retouching.
Introduction to pigments, binding media, varnishes and painting materials.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Approved passing of the course demands that the student fulfills the requirements specified in each course implementation
