Objective

Students examine ageing through multidisciplinary gerontological knowledge and utilise this research-oriented knowledge, its central concepts and theories in their actions. They are able to recognise the changes caused by social and psychological ageing and their significance for the lives of the elderly. Students view ageing as an individual phase of life and old people as taking an active role in their lives.

Content

Multidisciplinary aspect of gerontology and concept analysis of its central fields (educational, cultural, psycho-, social- and health gerontology as well as geriatrics). Theories and models of ageing. Socio-cultural and holistic aspect to ageing. Psychological ageing and development psychology of ageing as well as cognitive and emotional effects related to ageing. Self-image and sexual identity. Social aspects, outlook on life and agency. Individual ageing and ageing with experience.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students use the appropriate core concepts as well as make choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They recognise the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students’ actions follow the rules and instructions given, and they use working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act responsibly as group members.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students analyse the relationships between appropriate core concepts as well as justify their choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They analyse the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students act according to the rules and instructions given in their operating environment, and they use working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act flexibly as group members.
