General information

Credits
5 ECTS

Objective

After the course student recognizes basic principles of computer aided drawing programs and GIS.

Content

Fundamentals of one commonly used CAD program and applying the program to create following types of technical documents:
- Scaled layout documents
- Piping and instrumentation diagrams
Basics of geographical information systems (GIS) and spatial information data. Typical geographical information databases and coordinate types and use of them in GIS.
Basics of environmental simulation

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

After completing the course the student is able to interpret layout drawings computer aided (CAD) following the most central rules of scaled documents. Furthermore, he/she is able to create piping and instrumentation (PI) diagrams computer aided.
After the course student recognizes basics of geographical information systems (GIS) and spatial information data.
Student is familiar with common geographical information databases and coordinate types. Student has explored common GIS programs and has a basic knowledge of different map types.
After the course student recognizes possibilities of environmental simulation.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Student can apply independently given data to selected simulation and GIS programs and analyze results.
The student is able to apply his/her skills of CAD -technology to modify technical documents like PI -diagrams and layout drawings from given applications.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to work independently in applying his/her skills of CAD -technology to create technical documents like simple PI -diagrams
Student can apply and combine theory and applications systematically and have a holistic approach on areas of environmental simulation and GIS.
