Aim of the program
Graduates who complete the degree program in nursing, are educated to become competent in evidence based nursing. In addition to health promotion and illness prevention, nursing practice involves care, support, guidance and rehabilitation of people with various health problems as well as their significant others. Furthermore, nursing practice involves care and support of the dying and of their significant others. Competent performance of a nurse is based on updated knowledge of nursing science, as well as on complementary knowledge of biologic, social and physical sciences. The fundamental competencies embrace the ability to gather and critically analyze information, and to apply this information in nursing practice, as well as in its evaluation and development.
Studies lead to readiness to plan, implement, evaluate and develop nursing care in collaboration with clients / patients of different ages as well as with their significant others. Emphasis is placed on reinforcement of individual and family resources in life transitions, in crisis, and during illness. Studies lead to competencies in provision of basic and specialist care in diverse nursing settings. In addition, graduates will be cabable of responding to immediate needs of patients requiring specialized care in rapidly changing situations. Furthermore, they will possess competecies to participate in, tocoordinate and to develop team- and network capabilities.
The syllabus is modular in structure, and it consists of nine themes, each one focusing on an area of professional competence. The themes have been dispersed over the 3.5 academic years, each one providing deeper understanding and progressively enhancing further professional development. During each clinical practice, competencies relating to a particular theme are being reinforced. In each module, completion of theoretical studies is a prerequisite for clinical practice placement.
