Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences students may apply for identification and accreditation of prior learning as part of their compulsory or optional studies, provided they have prior learning corresponding to the curriculum before the course in question begins.

Profile of the programme

Business Informatics is a degree programme of 60 ECTS for engineers in profession who want to deepen their strategic and managerial expertise through improved information management and better use of business intelligence systems.
Each student plans and implements a development project in/for real business life, typically for their work organization. In doing so, the student’s research, project and change management skills will be enhanced. Networking, team, and negotiation skills also improve in the multi-cultural, tied-to-business setting in which this Master’s DP is carried out. This R&D project will be reported as a Master’s Thesis (30 ECTS).

Key learning outcomes

The student will become a competent analyzer and user of business intelligence in decision-making, in business operations as well as in business development. Deeper insight into business management areas such as management and leadership, logistics, marketing, or accounting are offered, each linked to the corresponding ICT systems (eg. MIS, ERP, CRM). The scope of studies is international.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. Students must be informed at the beginning of the course on the assessment principles, which must be based on the course objectives. Assessment takes primarily place for each course and applies to the students who have registered and been accepted on the course. If necessary, different components of a course may be assessed individually. If the course consists of several components, the teacher may point this out in the assessment principles contained in the implementation plan.
The assessment scale is as follows: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), very satisfactory (2), satisfactory (1), fail (0) and pass (P). Any deviations of this scale will be decided by the President.

Graduation requirements

All studies indicated in the curriculum of the Master’s Degree Programme in Business Informatics must be successfully completed.

Mode of study

When studying on a part-time basis, the student can achieve the Master’s degree in 2 years, however with flexibility both ways. Contact sessions take place on Thursday evenings and/or on Fridays, approximately twice a month. Someforms of e-learning will also be applied. The language of instruction is English.
