Objective

The student understands the goals of the Museum Act and the role of museums in achieving these goals.
The student understands how museums store and preserve cultural and natural heritage, as well as art. He / she understands how these materials are researched and utilized, and how they are made accessible to as many people as possible.
The student understands how museum collecting activities have evolved from object-centered to phenomenon-centered and communal.
The student is familiar with the key legislation on cultural heritage conservation and the ethical codes that define the role of a conservator. The student understands the task field of different types of museums and the job descriptions of professionals in different museum fields.
The student is familiar with the main organizations in the field and their operating methods (ICOM / ICOM-CC, ICOMOS and ICCROM, Association of Museums).
The student understands the requirements for the preservation of cultural heritage and the importance of risk factors that threaten its preservation. He / she understands the importance of preventive measures and is able to apply what he / she has learned in different situations.
The student knows the principles and processes of museum exhibition construction and the role of the conservator in it.
The student understands the thinking of sustainable development and is able to apply it to the issues of cultural heritage preservation.

Content

The main content of the course is the formation of museum collections, the basic processes of practical collection work: cataloging, preservation, care, collection policy and value classification.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to outline the topic of the course, such as the formation of museum collections and the basic processes of practical collection work: cataloging, preservation, care, collection policy and value classification. The student is familiar with the related theory at a basic level. The student masters the basics of the course and understands the main content of the course. The student understands the necessary theoretical and applied principles related to the topic. The student is able to acquire information independently. The student has difficulty acting as a group member in an encouraging and group-strengthening way.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has a good understanding of the topic of the course, such as the formation of museum collections and the basic processes of practical collection work: cataloguing, preservation, care, collection policy and value classification. The student demonstrates a good knowledge of theoretical and applied knowledge. The student is able to expertly justify the choices he / she has made and the practical application proceeds consistently in accordance with the practices of the professional field. The student masters the whole subject area related to museum collections, both in theory and in practice and has achieved a good level of knowledge and skills. The work has been sufficiently independent. The student is able to acquire information independently and is able to critically analyse this information. As a member of the group, the student acts to encourage and strengthen the work of the group.

The student masters the complete subject set of the basic processes of the formation of museum collections and practical collection work: cataloguing, preservation, care, collection policy and value classification. The student has achieved an excellent level of knowledge and skills. The student demonstrates an excellent theoretical and applied knowledge of museum collections and their preservation and is able to apply what he / she has learned well. The student is able to work largely independently on both written and skill-based assignments. The student is able to acquire information independently, to analyse and apply this information. The student participates in the discussion with arguments using the concepts of the field. The student is able to justify the choices he / she has made expertly and the application in practice proceeds consistently in accordance with the practices of the professional field. The student works consistently and independently, showing initiative and creative problem-solving ability. As a member of the group, the student acts to encourage and strengthen the work of the group.
