Objective

In this course, the student will expand his/her knowledge of different analysis techniques and prevailing analytical methods. He/she will learn about the analytical possibilities they provide.
The student is able to characterize proteins and utilize protein bioinformatics tools and database.
The student is able to use literature to plan and develop a new analytical method. He/she is able to evaluate the method and develop it further.

Content

1. GC-MS and HPLC-MS –techniques and different ionization techniques related to them
2. Mass spectrometric techniques such as MS, MS/MS, ESI, MALDI, ion trap and Time Of Flight (TOF).
3. Multidimensional chromatography
4. Analytical method development
5. Protein databases and bioinformatics tools

The student demonstrates achievement of the objectives of the core competences and uses concepts and knowledge in a consistent manner.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students are able to use GC and LC-MS instruments and create new methods. Fluency in the use of analytical concepts and understanding of the analytical potential of combinatorial techniques.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students put their professional skills into practice. He/she uses concepts and knowledge of instrument analysis in a competent way and is able to integrate them.
