Objective

The student will be familiar with older either no longer used or partly used construction, HVAC and electrical systems and supplies. The student will know how to determine the condition of older structures and systems to help make the decision between preservation and renewal. The student will know the special ways of implementing the building code to renovation. The student will understand both the construction process and the grounds on which decisions are made about the restoration building services systems in an average residential building.

Content

The student will learn to know older structures and methods of construction, and will be able to take the special requirements the architecture of the building places on the new building services systems to be designed for the building being renovated. The student will learn to know the methods to determine the condition of older structures and systems to help make the decision between preservation and renewal. Still existing building services systems from different eras, older installations, older supplies and their replacement with newer ones, condition surveys and the like, implementing rules and regulations on renovations, and contracting for renovations.
