Coating Project on Building Construction and RepairLaajuus (10 ECTS)

Objective

The student is expected to know the work phases and working methods of surface treatments of buildings, the required properties of substrate materials to be coated and the properties of products applicable to surface treatments. The student is expected to be able to study the properties of coating materials, select applicable coatings for different substrates and prepare surface treatment specifications.
The student is expected to be able to select a coating taking into account the stresses from a substrate structure and atmospheric exposure, prepare a coating specification, calculate the need of materials, work and time and calculate the costs. The student is able to plan the proper treatment systems, need for labor and make schedules. The student is able to calculate the costs of a coating project.
The student is expected to know the planning and execution methods of façade and piping renovation projects. The student is expected to be able to identify previously applied coatings, know the phases of condition inspection and research and prepare a document of recommendations for coating renovation.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to
1. describe the tasks, problem solving tools and data sources used by professionals in the field
2. explain how projects are managed, and how project tasks are connected to each other
3. demonstrate learning in the key safety practices in the field
4. work in various duties, describe his or her own contribution to the group’s work and co-operate within the group
5. plan the use of his or her own resources and deliver the contributions on schedule

7. work with the group and, if necessary, re-organise his or her work

The student is able to
1. use concepts and knowledge of the field fluently and comprehensively
2. make a project plan for his or her group and act as group leader or an active member
3. execute the project plan in a goal-oriented manner and act independently and responsibly in professional contexts

5. describe the principles and results of quality assurance for his or her group’s work
6. present, both orally and in writing, the project plans and results of his or her group

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to
1. apply professional information in professional assignments
2. plan and make schedules for a large project that has several sub-tasks
3. plan the quality assurance principles for the whole project
4. organize and manage the operation of a group and project
The project is finalized and reported on time and it achieves or exceeds the targets set to it.
