Objective

The student will become familiar with various advanced sectional techniques and be prepared for polyphonic writing. He/she will be able to creatively form complete textures according to style in a way which develops the student’s expression.

Content

– Advanced sectional harmony techniques
– Two and three part polyphony
– Non functional harmony
– Polychords
– Advanced reharmonization
– Atonal melody and harmony
– Creating musical textures in various style

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in class
• has completed the agreed tasks
• is able to work independently
• can recognize different types of form and structure
• is able to write melodic sectional harmony using so-called additional sectional techniques
• is able to write double independent counter melody (three voice polyphony)
• is able to form polychordal harmonies
• has mastered challenging reharmonization
• can recognize non-functional and non-tonal harmony
• is able to create musical textures and harmony according to various styles
