Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the course the student will understand many essential mathematical principles in image processing. The student will know how to analyse and process a digital image by a computer. The student will know what kind of information an image comprises in the frequency domain and how to make good use of this in processing an image.

After completing the course the student will be able to analyse and process a digital image by a computer both in the spatial domain and in the frequency domain. The student will be able to visualize technical data.

interpolation; gradient
3. Image processing in the frequency domain: analysing, enhancing and filtering an image, and removing noise in an image; spectrum; sampling

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1)

The student knows the concepts of an image: idealized image, digital image, pixel. The student is able to analyse an image by using a histogram. The student knows how to process an image by applying mapping functions and mask operations in spatial domain. The student knows the mathematical principle of how to detect edges in an image and how to do it by means of a gradient mask. The student knows the importance of sampling and the sampling principles.

In addition to having satisfactory knowledge in the topics of the course the student is able to use frequency domain techniques (with FFT) to analyse and solve image problems. The student understands what aliasing means and how the different frequency components of a signal are mapped under aliasing.

In addition to having good knowledge in the topics of the course the student is able to apply fluently different standard methods in image processing to solve practical image problems. The student is able to use different colour space formats to analyse and modify a digital image.
