Location and time
The Moodle platform is open from February 16 at 9:00 AM to April 4 at 4:00 PM.
Materials
In addition to the materials available in the workspace, the course utilizes the e-book "Faktaa ja fiilistä tapahtumatuottajalle" (Huhtaniska & Tirronen, Edita 2019). As students of the Open University of Applied Sciences, applicants can use their Metropolia credentials to access e-books licensed by the Metropolia Library, provided that reading rights are available. Otherwise, the book is a paid e-book. Online course students can purchase a mini-license for the necessary parts of the book required for the course. The license is valid for two months from the date of purchase.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Excellent (5):
The student understands the different operational sectors of cultural management and evaluates their significance in the development of the cultural field. They analyze the role of the creative industries in society. The student assesses how the responsibilities and obligations related to event ownership impact the production process. They draw conclusions about the impact of events from different perspectives and can explain the principles of financial objectives and budgeting in event production. Additionally, the student identifies their own strengths and evaluates areas for professional development from the perspective of cultural management.
Good (3-4):
The student identifies and analyzes the key characteristics of different operational sectors in cultural management and their significance. They understand the unique aspects of the creative industries. The student comprehends how the responsibilities and obligations related to event ownership impact the production process. They analyze the impact of events from social, economic, and ecological perspectives. The student understands the fundamental principles of financial objectives and budgeting in events. Additionally, they are able to identify and evaluate areas for their own professional development from the perspective of cultural management.
Satisfactory (1-2):
The student recognizes the different operational sectors of cultural management and can describe their key characteristics. They can define what is meant by the creative industries. The student understands the responsibilities and obligations related to event ownership and can explain the concept of impact from different perspectives. They are able to list the key principles of financial objectives and budgeting for events. Additionally, the student can identify and describe their own strengths and competencies relevant to the role of a cultural manager.
Student workload
The student's total workload is approximately 80 hours, including study materials and assignments.
Teaching methods
Online teaching. Independent study and assignments on the Moodle platform. The tuition is in Finnish.

The course is the first part of the student selection process for the Cultural Management degree program in Spring 2025. The course is free of charge for applicants. All detailed instructions, assignment descriptions, required materials, and assessment criteria can be found in the Moodle workspace.
Students who successfully complete the course will receive a 3-credit completion record from Metropolia's Open University of Applied Sciences. For those admitted to the Cultural Management degree program, the course will be included as part of their studies. Remember to also apply through the joint application system via Opintopolku! Without an official application, you cannot be invited to the second part of the entrance exam. Completion of the course "Kulttuurituottajan työ ja toimintaympäristöt" alone does not grant direct access to the entrance exam without an official joint application.
Based on the first part of the selection process, 90 eligible applicants will be invited to the second part of the entrance exam. The second part of the exam is primarily conducted on-site at Metropolia’s Arabia campus. More details will be provided in the entrance exam invitation.
